Colossians 4:18

18…Remember my chains.

wow.  that’s all i have to say.

one of the shortest yet most powerful sentences in the entire bible.

gives me chills most every time i see it.

hope to have it on my wrist soon.

looking back

looking through some old notes and came across a note i jotted down in a sunday morning service from brentwood baptist not too long ago.

*book of james in one sentence — “if you don’t live it, you don’t believe it”.

lord, i pray that you help me to live it because i know i’m failing miserably in your eyes.

James 1:19-21

19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

update

I’ve decided to begin posting the passages that I study during my daily quiet time. Not real sure whether I will post my thoughts concerning them on here as well, seeing as I already journal those ideas.

I don’t know if anyone still reads this anymore so I guess it will be more of a way to make myself accountable for alloting time daily to study the Word.

Many days I find that the passages have nothing to do with each other when other times I can go back and look to see that there have been times where days and even weeks of how God has chosen verses/chapters for me that relate in some fashion or another.

Anyways, just letting all those who may drop by from time to time what’s going to be happening here from now on.

Psalm 119

1 Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord.
2 Joyful are those who obey his laws
and search for him with all their hearts.
3 They do not compromise with evil,
and they walk only in his paths.
4 You have charged us
to keep your commandments carefully.
5 Oh, that my actions would consistently
reflect your decrees!
6 Then I will not be ashamed
when I compare my life with your commands.
7 As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should!
8 I will obey your decrees.
Please don’t give up on me!

Thank you Lord for these words.

Burden my heart to make this my daily prayer.

What an Amazing Story!

A young man was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college.
While he was walking through the bush, he came across a young bull
elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very
carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant’s foot.
There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot.

As carefully and as gently as he could he worked the thorn out with
his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.
The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its
face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man stood frozen –
thinking of nothing else but being trampled.

Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away.

The man never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.
Twenty years later the man was walking through the zoo with his
teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the
creatures turned and walked over to where they were standing at the
rail. The large bull elephant stared at him and lifted it’s front foot
off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times,
all the while staring at the man.

The man couldn’t help wondering if this was the same elephant.

After a while it trumpeted loudly; then it continued to stare at him.

The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made
his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and
stared back in wonder.

Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one
of the man’s legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the
railing, killing him.

Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

A hamster and a bullfrog

A guy walks into a bar and orders a beer.

“Listen,” he says to the bartender, “If I show you the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen, is my beer on the house?”

“We’ll see,” says the bartender.

So the guy pulls out a hamster and a tiny piano out of a bag, puts them on the bar, and the hamster begins to play.

“Impressive,” says the bartender, “but I’ll need to see more.”

“Hold on,” says the man. He then pulls out a bullfrog, and it sings “Old Man River.”

A patron jumps up from his table and shouts “Thats’s Absolutely incredible! I’ll give you $100 right now for the frog.”

“Sold,” says the guy. The patron takes the bullfrog and leaves.

“It’s none of my business,” says the bartender, “but you just gave away a fortune.”

“Not really,” says the guy, “The hamster is also a ventriloquist.”

Tell em’ ’bout it Mr. Durden

“I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God **** it, an entire
generation pumping gas, waiting tables . . . slaves with white collars.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we
can buy s**t we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man.
No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our
Great War’s a spiritual war . . . our Great Depression is our lives.
We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be
millionaires and movie gods and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re
slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off . . .”

So the Mitchell Report means nothing?

None of the 86 players mentioned in the Mitchell report released last week are expected to speak at a Jan. 15 hearing on steroids before the House Government Reform Committee, according to a published report.”

What is the point then? George Mitchell just wanted to tell us who he thinks may have been involved in the steroid scandal and nothing else? Now what? Am I the only one who wants to see these players punished for tarnishing the sport?

“We don’t want to turn this into a circus,” Rep. Tom Davis told USA Today. “We just want to know what Major League Baseball plans to do about their problems. We understand the collective bargaining agreement complicates matters, but we’d like to see if they agree with Senator George Mitchell’s recommendations, and move on.”

Oh Tom, it’s already a circus. At least it was. We heard about players who might be mentioned for months beforehand and now that it’s out, Congress isn’t requiring that any of them show up to testify under oath. Are you serious?
